IMHO, that is not the purpose of the long hose.
a) you can't keep a panicked diver at distance with a hose (of any length).
b) you need to be very close to a panicked diver in order to control him/her.
c) once the panicked diver has calmed down again, a long hose is beneficial indeed, but now we don't have a panicked diver anymore.

So, I was saying that the long hose "does not help to control a panicked diver" and I think that statement is correct.

I thank you for your response because it gives me the opportunity to add my express belief that a long hose is overall beneficial in emergency situations and does not have any disadvantages if routed properly.
