You guys that do that kind of diving are nuts. My kinda
nuts, but nuts. I've read about some of that diving though
and it sounds like it can be exciting as well as beautiful.
Talk about innervating. ScubaMom - RSD BBS used to write
about it well.
Actually, I have to clear that up for the DIR folks.
Their reason for an 8 foot hose, is for a following
buddy in a tight spot. No one questions that cave
(and I guess ice) diving technique. The comment about
the panicked diver that I questioned was in reference
to the 5 foot hose.
Really the funny thing about DIR is that saying something
about your 10 foot hose rather than their 8 foot hose
seems to take on more importance than I can go for. I
understand their arguement that the whole outfit is that
holistically balanced. Sorry, I study complex systems for
hobby and a living. Any real system is adaptable and
ultimately relies on fail safes for stability, or the
system doesn't survive. If a 10 foot hose destroys a
system because the system is designed for an 8 foot hose,
the system has a flawed design paradym. Really, I think the
flaw here though is in the interpretation of the system.
Enjoy the diving (brrr), seahunt
