Seahunt, you are very articulate and very persuasive, and so are Mike, Terry, and John. I find myself sort of caught in the middle. I, too, have yet to don and dive a total DIR rig so I'm in no position (yet!) to either embrace or reject it except on a purely intellectual level. Despite my long history of independent (read solo) diving, I'm the first to admit that trained, experienced DIR teams at any depth are safer under the sea than me. I eagerly look forward to the forthcoming book or manual on DIR adapted to basic recreational sport diving.
Thanks for your indepth, non-confrontational treatise on DIR.
