Yah. I hope I never said that solo diving is safer than a
buddy, though sometimes... I've just said that it is safe
enough for me. If safety was my only concern in diving, I
couldn't do it. There is this one major danger that is always
right there... too much water. The danger is acceptable to
me. The danger when I was an electrician was often greater
and I accepted that. What's the difference. Life is dangerous
and 'Nobody Gets Out Of Here Alive'. Diving is just part of my
life.
Also as you said, extreme diving, the Matterhorn, caves,
etc. just represent danger. DIR and mixed gases may make it
safer, perhaps even safe enough that it's not insane to make
the dive in the first place, but that is still a very
dangerous place. I think that a dive like that with a buddy
is more dangerous than a shallow dive solo.
I hope that the DIR proponents don't think that DIR can
make them invulnerable.
Enjoy the diving, seahunt
