Of course we don't know her profile and if she even *had* any deco time. According to the (obviously flawed) LA times article (said she ran out of oxygen and stated the recent death was of an Italian, she was in fact German, so we'l take it with a grain of salt), it appeared that she said she wanted to go down to compensate for her quick ascent due to running out of air (goes to show you never to be complacent), rather than a missed deco obligation. If it were the latter, you'd think people on board would be freaking (and maybe they were).

At any rate, I always thought the reason in-water recompression was disfavored was mainly because it's unlikely you'll have enough gas for a diver to stay down long enough.

This is an interesting thread that I would like to see more of.
