One of these days, i would like to try out a DIR set up on the shallow reefs of Indonesia, where one can glide effortlessly an inch or so above the coral for a couple of hours on one AL80. If my octopus, inflator hose and all that other crap hanging off my straps can be kept from even touching the coral, i will eagerly become a convert! But sliding around on one's belly, inverting, and twisting around fragile marine life while chasing banded sea-snakes for half an hour up, over, beside and under such things as tabular Acroporas the size of small cars really tests the gear config, buoyancy skills and situational awareness of a diver! To be able to do that and not hook one coral or bang into a single sponge is my personal holy grail of gear config!
