Prior to September 5, 1971, my 39th birthday, I was the usual 2 to 3 pack a day smoking diver. It was cutting my endurance in the water in half. That, and the fact that I didn't want to be a do as I say not as I do Daddy to my 3 year old son and being a semi-hypochondriac, was enough for me to cold turkey. Get off those coffin nails, son, if you want to keep diving. It's the slowest form of suicide invented by man. Also, consider the damage that's being done to your body by the increased partial pressure of carbon dioxide at depth. Call an AA Central Office and get the meeting schedules for Smokers Anonymous.
