Frank,
I understand the DIR philosophy against computers. As far as square dive profiles go, it's very easy to change your plan "on the fly" by using your backup plan written on your slate or by making the calculations in your head. However, most of my dives, and apparantly others on this board who dive the same way, are sawtooth profiles. Even on dives with a fixed maximum depth such as a wreck, I will not usuall stay at my deepest depth the entire dive. I'm always bouncing all over the place! Someone mentiond that the algorithyms in todays computers are more conservative than the NAUI tables. Great! A little added conservative time plus the calculations made on the fly every second will keep me using a computer for a long time.
