If you will be here a week, you might take a Saturday to drive down to Mission Bay in San Diego and do a caged blue shark/mako dive. The chance of seeing the sharks is very close to 100% and it is certainly a unique and safe experience. The blues are like puppy dogs and are not threatening at all! It is a bit pricey at $260.00 though. You can check out www.sdsharkdiving.com for the details. Also, If you go to Catalina, my favorites are Farnsworth Bank, Ship Rock, Bird Rock, and Eagle Reef. Lots of Kelp (this year anyhow...the stuff comes and goes) and nice schools of fish and other things like nudibranchs etc. If the oil rigs are open, i highly reccomend a dive or two there followed by a couple of shallow dives at Catalina, like say, Long Point or Yellow Tail Point.

just my $0.02 worth.
