I hope in my commentary that I made it clear that in general I consider DIR a good system that promotes the concept of good diving practices. Personalities aside...
The concept of a diving system is novel. Some manufacturers would be happy to fit you out in the same color, but few ever tried to look at the whole diver, their buddy and gear as a system that interacts and can be optimized for function and safety. There is a lot of potential there.
.
It's true. There are a lot of divers out there, but so little organization or leadership. Think of any other sport. Maybe it's because there are few stars in diving that can upstage the sea life. It seems odd, but I can think of some other reasons too.
Enjoy, seahunt
