If the reg is up tight under your chin you will have trouble looking down. The reg should end up at your lips when you tilt your head down. To far from your mouth will require extra time to locate and will surely inable you to grab it with your mouth (no hands) if you where to find yourself wedged in a tight spot.
Most of the DIR group prefer a short hose on the backup reg. The back-up reg is the one you want the necklace on. I believe it is 26". MHK can confirm on that. I personally prefer a little longer hose so it does not pull to the right when my B.C. if full.
I have seen you at Scuba Toys and realize your to young to drive but if your interested and able to get there I can leave you a necklace and Jim can show you how to use it.
