The Spare Air was never designed or intended for diving. It was never designed or intended to be submerged, and never designed or intended for as a "pony bottle".

The Spare Air is a modified version of a HEED, which is a military acronym for Helicopter Emergency Evacuation Device or a Helicopter Emergency Egress Device (depending on which branch).

The HEED unit is secured on mouthpiece up on your left in between your Evasion GPS and your survival flares. It was never intended to be submerged, unless it was actually being used in an emergency or during Helicopter Underwater Egress Training ( HUET ).

After selling and servicing many Spare Air units, and diving with my own, I feel the units are unreliable and unsafe.
