i don't know. this was my first time diving for an extended period in 50-degree water. i called my dermatologist and she said that is was very likely an allergic reaction to the cold water -- not anything in the water. apparently our immune responses change as we get older, so it's not unusual to experience new types of allergic reactions. i'm going to go into the doctor's office and they are going to give me an "ice cube" test. oh boy. so we'll see what happens.
