To compare the relative safety of breathing Air and Nitrox, it would be helpful to know the numbers that use each. Are there 22 times the Air breathers as Nitrox breathers. The numbers alone suggest that men are 3 times as likely to die as women.
Another factor that should be considered is the type of dives being made. Deep wreck dives are more dangerous than diving in 40' of water at Catalina. Which dive are you more likely to find a diver using Nitrox?
Statistics can be used to prove anything if used right(or wrong).
