If only we had a grad student or two to chase down the data. If we knew the number of tanks filled, which should not be all that hard to discover, we could get a decent approximation of the number of dives taken in California. My guess is that the number of dead and injured divers would no longer sound very interesting in light of the number of living and grinning divers stil around.
Deaths of fellow divers diminish us all and our sport. Getting all worked up about this small number of fatalities (compared to the large number of uninjured divers) does not make sense. It only makes points.
