John and Mike and Terry and other DIR advocates all used to dive solo. Then something happened that turned them around 180 degrees. I've asked Mike what event or events caused the turnaround so dramatically but he hasn't responded yet. I doubt it was because of a huge spike in solo deaths because year after year the fatality stats are pretty consistant vis-a-vis buddy/solo. Too bad this issue keeps degenerating into flame wars.
