I make about 100 dives a year, mostly with classes. I use to dive alone allot, but not in
the last 5 or 6 years. I don’t know why this is, maybe it’s because I have become more
aware of my own mortality or maybe I just become a more responsible diver ( I think a
little of both).
There is no other sport like diving, we use life support equipment to go into a hazardous
environment (an environment that can and will kill you), because of this, we require
training in the use of the equipment and training in that environment.
Because of the environment we are diving in we need to stack the deck on our side (
good equipment, training, experience, and a buddy).
The goal of every diver should be to dive as safely as possible. If we are diving alone we
are not diving as safely as possible, we are not being a responsible diver.
We owe it to our family’s, to our friends, our sport, and the EMS people, to be as
responsible as possible ( we need to grow up)!
