When we have three on the boat, two dive, one stays behind.
In an ideal world you can always have good buddies, and at least three people who are good divers and boat operators to go out on the boat.
But this is not an ideal world. Sometimes your choice is go out with two or don't go. You would choose not to go, most times I would choose to go.
If you experience a current while under the water, you crawl into and then surface.
If there is a large down current, a buddy will no help, he will only be another victim.
Is equipment failure possible… always.
Are you much more likely to be caught in a current than experience equipment failure … yes.
Thus back to my original contention, if you only have two on the boat it is obviously safer for one to remain behind.
