I don't know if you are aware, but I have a number of essays about
Catalina on my site at www.diver.net/seahunt
The site is basically about CA diving, so it can tell you a lot
about what you are getting into, including the yearly weather
cycle... which can be windy in March... or really good.
There is all the rentals you could want and some full service dive
shops on the island. Look at www.californiadiveboats.com for boats
based at Catalina as well as boats that go there.
If you are on the island, just south of Avalon is Lover's Cove,
where the glass bottom boats go and feed fishes all day. You cannot
use scuba there, but it is not needed. In that cove are more fish
than you will see anywhere else at the islands and they know that
they are protected.
The dive park at the Casino is OK, but you can see better stuff
with boat trip.
Thanks for the congrats. Few people would notice. Few people would
care, but I have done so much work, overcome so many problems and
created such an elaborate system, that I can be really pleased to
see the big boys come to us for the best analytic product there is
in our industry. You would recognize their name. The other one that
went out had only one arm and an ear, but it is going online this
week and by the time I get the rest of the pieces attached to the
body, it's going to be something bodacious too... only, it is for
mass marketing, so I may get to walk into a store and see it in use
one day... Of course, given my druthers, I'd rather walk in a store
and see my book about genetics on sale..... sigh...
Enjoy the diving, seahunt
