"While the fatality rate for a lot of sports are very similar,I bet that divers have a far lower injury rate"
A major difference I see is that an "injury" in diving is alot more likely to result in death than an "injury" in these other sports.
Observation: if those on the scene of an accident in any of these other sports can't handle the problem they can call for someone else to help and while time is critical they can wait. If those on the scene in a diving accident(diver in question, diver's buddy, etc.) can't handle the problem or at least get to the surface, its over. The rescue team is called. Why it is called this I don't know because they usually make a recover not a rescue.
Why is this? What is different about diving that can't be said for all these other sports?

In diving when shit happens it usually hits the fan.
