Mike;

I don't know what killed Mia so I don't know what, if anything, could have saved her. The scenario you describe is certainly a viable one, but not the only one. Having a buddy would have given surface support a chance to save her. That much is as clear as day and ample justification for having a buddy. Since we all here choose to venture in harm's way to dive, why not stack the odds in our favor by creating efficient redundancy in whatever type of diving we do? To me, and you, that includes diving with a buddy you can count on. For some others here, finding a qualified buddy is a nusence they'd rather not have. Free country. To suggest that one can't draw some basic conclusions to apply to the future from Mia's death because of lack of certainty; however, is, to me, just plain wrongheaded.
