If the procedure is too difficult to explain simply then is too difficult to do while diving. This is especially true for stressful circumstances. In fact, if they are that difficult they could greatly increase the danger posed to a diver by increasing ones task loading.
I personally believe that reducing the number of tasks you must think about enhances ones safety on a dive. Some of this can be accomplished with practice, which makes the skills you need seem natural. However spending time doing calculations can divert your attention from other things in the environment that may be perilous.
