I have seen Mantis Shrimp at many places at Catalina.
Most recently I saw them on the sandy slope off of Indian Rock/Emerald Bay.
But I find them in almost all sandy areas at Catalina and San Clemente islands.
I have seen them as shallow as 20 feet, and as deep as 140 feet.
Most I see tend to be in the 40-90 foot range.
During the day they seem to stay backed up into their holes.
Most times you will find small stones and shells arranged around the entrances to their holes.
I tend to see them hanging out of their holes near dusk.
Pyramid Cove at San Clemente Island is full of them.
