Mike - it's the difference between lugging a single nitrox
tank (or any tank for the diffusion systems) versus carrying
a tank for each dive you plan to make. LA charters tend
to be 3 or 4 dives for a day run - it's a pain to need
to own that many, and then to load and unload each day
of diving.
That first time I met you (would be Moody trip), I think
I carried 2 nitrox HP80s and 1 air HP100. Afterwards, it
didn't seem worth the effort of borrowing the tanks, filling,
vipping, etc. That might have a bit to do with not
making the wreck, but I think it's just a great hassle
in general.
It's far easier to get on the Cypress Point and say,
Phil, give me some death gas!
