Thanks for jumping in here; another voice of reason in the DIR wilderness. But...aren't you reinventing the wheel? I began diving in 1964 with a wet suit and a steel 72, no BC, and enough lead to be slightly positive on the surface. Remember: no stops back then, just a 60' per minute ascent from whatever depth. I don't remember any of these gear/gadget discussions back then. The focus then was almost totally on the undersea environment, what we were diving for, on, and why. Now it seems the focus has gone 180 degrees to primarily the gear. And, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think there were any more accidents or fatalities then, ratio-wise, than there are now. Of course there wasn't very much extreme diving then and, yes, I'm a believer in DIR when it comes to that.
