I was trying to get the issue settled since there appears to be some varying schools of thought so I called George Irvine to see if he would comment. I forwarded your post to George, and he plans on responding this evening.
But in short George's response was let him know who is purporting to be a WKPP team member in good standing that is recomending steel tanks and wetsuits and George will discuss the issue with that person, because the WKPP does NOT recommend a steel tank while diving wet.
I'll let George speak for himself but the long and the short of it is that according to George the answer is NO steel tank while diving wet..
