Another item in the equation is our differing physical bouyancy characteristics. I'm personally a human cork and require more lead than divers I know who can literally dive a wet suit and aluminum tank with hardly any weight at all. As to diving wet with doubles, I'm afraid I'm guilty. Dove double 72's wet from '71 to '87. Because of my inherent bouyancy I never doubted for a moment that I could surface comfortably in the even I either lost or dropped my weight belt. So, bottom line, one divers gear configuration is another one's accident waiting to happen.
