"Monster berries" those semi-large granules of sand that are churned up by surf on beach dives, could wreck any piece of equipment no matter how well maintained. One single monster berry could immobilize your B/C, mask purge, snorkle purge or vent, 2nd stage, backup 2nd stage, and turn you into a gelatinous-protein-calcium negatively buoyant rock. Personally, I suggest everyone learn how to DITCH ALL THEIR GEAR except for their fins and FREEDIVE! Forget about relying on a buddy. Every buddy I have every dived with (except for 1) has relied upon moi!
