When spearfishing it is often necessary to hold ones breath to get close enough to game, but one must be very careful when doing it.
Being very quiet is crucial in very calm conditions where the noise from breathing is a huge disturbance.
Just watch all the fish jump and scatter every time you breathe.
The times I do hold my breath I make sure I am not ascending!
It is most effective when you spot game below and just slowly drop, almost motionless into firing range.
