A local dive club has an annual squid dive in January at Redondo submarine canyon. They have historically had about a one in four chance of catching squid in the act. I participated in the January dive this year, and found extensive areas of the canyon, at 70 feet, carpeted in squid eggs.
Sorry to rain on your parade, but it appears that the squid have been here, done that, and moved on in the cycle of life (sorry guys, but I just couldn't say that they've "come and gone").
I'm sure that your trip will have some exciting dives, but this late in the year you have very little chance in catching the "squid dance".
Maybe you can join us next January when we try again. But you have as good a chance of winning at the slots in Las Vegas as seeing mating squids in southern california.
