I checked out the GUE web site and Theodore is just starting out for his first cert. The GUE site has Tech 1-3 and Cave 1-3, rebreather and mixed gases. I didn't see the curriculum for begginer. He might get scared away, lets start him out in a pool somewhere, Babysteps.
The instructor you choose is more important when agency when starting out. Find a shop that has a nice warm pool where you can practice and practice and practice some more. Don't rush your training.
