Frank,
What I'm talking about is the dry weight a diver has to carry on his way from the car to the beach or to the boat, for that matter.

Just looking at the three options Faber offers in the 80cf range:

Scubapro/Faber LP78
full dry weight 29.5 lbs
empty buouancy -1.7 lbs
On this tank, I can shave off 1.7 lbs of lead to remain neutrally buoyant vs. a neutral empty tank, so I have to carry only 29.9 - 1.7 = 27.8 lbs.

The HP80
full dry 32.5lbs
empty - 7.2 (according to a chart)
carry only 25.3 lbs extra

The LP80
full dry 34 lbs
empty -2.6 lbs
carry 31.4 lbs

See the difference between tank concepts?
When you look at aluminum tanks, it gets worse. The weigh significantly more and have positve empty buoyancy weights.
