If marine hunters would put some effort into learning some basic ecology, they would be some of the strongest proponents of no take zones. Why do you think that the hunting group Ducks Unlimited is one of the strongest proponents of conservation of water fowl habitiat? Waiting until an ecosystem is in decline to try protecting it is too little to late. Work in Australia, the Philipinnes, and the Keys have shown that marine reserves increase the animal population of an entire area, not just within the reserve bounderies. Animals do not know where the boundaries are.
Aside from the above, non-hunters have rights too. It is only fair to leave a portion of the area as untouched as possible.
