I read the course outline and equipment requirements. Some of it actually seems innocuous enough. In fact, if the agancies did their jobs and gave customers value for money, much of this stuff would be covered as part of basic open water with the goal of making everyone truly self-sufficient in the water.
On the other hand, some of it is pretty discredited, like using independent doubles.
What was most interesting perhaps is how some of our most vocal solo divers would have to invest in additional equipment to pass the course-like BC's, redundant gas supplies, surface markers, EPIRB's, audible signalling devices, etc. Maybe it's a good thing they've been doing it so long they've nothing more to learn.
But wait! What if this solo diving craze really catches on and you have to have a solo c-card to dive solo? Wouldn't that be the height of irony.
