I slightly disagree with Ken in that when I'm deciding whether a trip is a no go or a go to the extent that it is my decision ( obviously the captain has the final say) but in my view what I try to decide is if there is a problem with one of the diver's and we need to do a rescue will the weather hamper our efforts???

If the swells are too big, or if the fog would preclude a chopper than in my mind we don't go...

If you read the Last Dive there was a good example of this very point, when the father and son surfaced the rescue efforts were hampered and delayed due to the conditions.. In that case you can't blame the weather for the double fatalities but clearly the rescue efforts were delayed and who knows if the son would have lived, but it's something to consider..

Later

PS.. How far do your boats travel up north to the dive site??? Out of San Pedro your looking at 2 hours minumum, to the outer islands your looking at 5+ hours, that could have a lot to do with why we cancel more often..
