Probably most divers tuning into this Board will understand the math and formula particulars, so don't dispair. With me, you're dealing with a technophobic dinosaur. When you ask:

"...absent the requisite understanding and you are on a liveaboard or multi-day trip and your computer fails what do you do???"

Well, it's never happened to moi in 14 years of over 30 liveaboard trips. In that unlikely event, I'd depend on my Suunto Solution back up. The odds of BOTH going south on me are about the same as winning the California Lottery!

But I basically agree that all divers should have at least a basic understanding of decompression theory as it relates to our own individual physiology.
