I'm going to avoid most of this thread, seeing as it is
the same as most of the older ones. Where are we going
with this? What conclusion do we hope to reach?
Risk assessment will always be an individual choice, unless
I woke up in Canada.
But I think it's rather inappropriate to match smoking
with solo diving in terms of risk.
There is no shortage of medical data on the risk of
consuming carcinogens by smoking. Just as obvious is the
effects it has on your cardiovascular condition.
But this doesn't exist for soloing. People don't die from
diving alone. They die because they have a problem and
are unable to resolve them. A good buddy may make the difference.
In rarer circumstances, they may cause the problem.
But the incident rate is orders of magnitude smaller
than the death rate for smokers.
