You would have to rely on your buddy if your non-winged BC failed at depth? As opposed to not relying on him should you be at depth sporting a set of wings? Let me know the secret here, Id dive wings in a heartbeat if I didnt need a buddy when they failed. Sorry, just poking fun at ya here, re-read your post, as an instructor you will see its full of holes, great big holes.
