in sim, do a deep dive long enough to get into decompression. Then, ascend slowly, and you will find that you will be back out of deco obligation, before you hit the original ceiling. This shows that the Vyper (at least mine) does indeed give you credit for ascents, and well at deeper depths than 20 feet.
What may have happened on your dive is that there just was too much deco obligation locked in that you could not make up for it with shallower depths and slow ascents. MHO.
