As I've personally shared, bad buddy or good is not why I dive solo. But you suggest a valid question: how does a basically good diver turn a bad buddy into a good one? If a bad buddy's the only reason a diver elects to go solo...that's a bad reason.
As to "stemming the tide", how successful do you think the new SDI/TDI Solo Diving Course is going to be?
