Ron, I know that Naui has a skindiver course that would get you started. http://www.naui.org and I'm sure that the other dive agencies have organized courses to help you become proficent as a snorkler. Even though we live in beautiful southern California the water is chilly especially this time of year 55 degrees is not uncommon. You will need a wetsuit, mask, fins and booties, and of course a snorkle.
