I have 16# on my belt and 8# ditchable on my BC which can be released 4+4. Through trials I have found that this is the minimum amount that will allow me to remain neutral at 20' w/ no air in the BC and an empty ST95.
My BC has two small pockets near the tank to which I add 4# (the approx. empty tank bouyancy difference) when using the AL tank. This allows me to leave the remainder of my weights unchanged.
This setup does leave me a little lighter (about 1#) w/ full AL than full steel. But that is only at the start, when finished things are equal.
My fear of becoming a missle caused me to only use 8# ditchable. Should I change the ratio of ditchable: belt weights? Although I have been past 100', most of my dives are 80' or less and although I make safety stops, I avoid decompression required situations.
