little programs hackers use to look at the active ports that your computer has on via the cable modem so they can enter undetected. As you well know, cable modems are allways on and thus allways suceptable to intrusion. Also, most cable operators assign you a distinct IP address, sort of like a street address, where you computer can allways be found. If you are using Windows I would be weary of leaving any sensitive information unprotected on my pc if it were conected to the internet via the cable modem and allways on. Do a little research on cable modems and you'll find out they are not totally safe. 56K dialup access gives your computer a different IP address each time you connect making it much harder for a hacker to find you. And you are lucky that your internet access is tax deductable. I wish I could do that!
