Steve,
With respect to color coding, and an idea that you are trying to present, we think it is a good thing that you are presenting options.. Looking at one's diving habits is always a good idea.
That being said, the wkpp ( and by extension) DIR used to use color coding. Ironically enough, most who dive outside Florida complained about the color coding. In essence, Florida cave waters are usually very clear, and as such distinguishing colors at depth wasn't as difficult in gin clear waters. Those that dive northeast, or PNW or any number of other places that had less than stellar vis was disadvantaged, because the opportunity to not be able to distinguish the color was much greater.
Accordingly, the wkpp and by extension DIR recognized the issue and abandoned the color coding in favor of alternative check systems..
I don't think it is the worst thing in the world if you desire a yellow or orange hose on the reg you are donating but in terms of our standaridized protocol we wouldn't rely on color checks..
Hopefully that clears it up a little..
