where to dive in central california?

hi, i am going to visit california in may. now i was searching the net for sources on dive spots and reliable operators. but it's not easy.

so i am going to ask the community. do have any tips and recommendations for scuba diving in central california. i am arriving in san francisco and do not want to go more south than st. barbara and not more north than ft. brag.
