It all depends on what you are after. I go out on the Spectre a lot. Very good boat and crew. So is the Peace and Liberty. Ventra Harbor where they are located is excellent. Lots of dining choices, and not too far from Downtwon Ventura, Oxnard and Camarello. There is a nice dive shop there, and if you need to order any gear, they deliver to the boat and pickup free of charge. Of course Santa Barbara just north is wonderful too. If you want to go to Catalina, Then you're going to need Long Beach/San Pedro area, or stay over on the island. Havent done much there, so I can't help, but I'm sure others here can.
