I made dozens of trips to Catalina and around P.V. in my 12' inflatable over the years. After the first Catalina trip through fog both directions, I got a handheld GPS. I was at Long Point (Cat.) one day having lunch when some people anchored next to me asked me where my boat was. I told them I was sitting in it. They thought I was kidding until I headed north and disappeared on the horizon. Ever since I "upgraded" five years ago to a 22' power boat with RADAR and full electronics, I've gotten too spoiled. I don't even go out if the swells are over four feet any more. Maybe I need to dust off the inflatable and get back to roughing it. I made more dives then.
