" Proponents of conservation not willing to give up ALL seafood are hypocrites."
but i do consider myself more of a realist: though
i hate the dependence on dirty fossil fuels, i
still drive a car b/c so far it's still a necessity
for me (although i HAVE decided not to bitch
and complain about gas prices: for God's sake, we
are the richest nation on earth, why should i complain
about gas prices??!!).
also, i personally believe that all the resources
on this planet were created by God for human
consumption and use. who am i or who is anyone
else to say that we can or cannot use them??!!
the underlying message is not an outright complete
ban for eternity on resource usage, but a more
positive attitude and acceptance toward RESOURCE
MANAGEMENT.
as a seafood lover (before it got popular), i wouldn't
mind not buying or consuming any seafood that
needed a break. if the commercial fisheries
were mandated to hunt certain species for a short
duration of time, but not others (and if there
was, say, a rotation among species hunting), i would
be in full support of it if it provided the
answer.
i'm not necessarily willing to give up eating
'seafood', just as i'm not necessarily willing
to give up eating cows, lamb, chicken, duck,
pigeon, rabbit, turkey, tomatoes, beans, etc.
i, along w/others, just think that we need to
be RESPONSIBLE in acquiring those resources...that's all.
i don't see how that attitude could possibly
be a threat to rec OR commercial fishers alike
(such an attitude would actually provide long term job
security to the commercial guys and hopefully
ample game for the rec guys).
...just 2cents worth...
