i saw one barely shootable calico, a few nice-sized opaleye, some fat n' sassy blacksmith, two smallish cabezon, and some sheepshead, only one of which was even remotely worth noting (it was just beginning to turn into a male, and it was perhaps...14 to 16 inches.

and that was it.

that was all i saw in four dives and nearly three hours underwater in the vicinity of PArallel Reef, Cat Rock, the Channels and West End Caves.

none of the spearos on the boat got so much as an undersize sheepshead.

good thing i took the camera with macro lens!

Now, what i'd like to know is, how much recreational angling (saw a few boats, nothing like even a slow day at Catalina or PV)
and how much commercial fishing goes on where we were diving yesterday?
i know there is a hell of a lot of spearfishing out there, because everytime i've been there, i've seen folks come up the swimstep with fish on their stringers (this is the first time that i've been on the boat at Anacapa, that the spearos got skunked)
