Snorkels are for snorkeling

There is no reason to carry a snorkel when scuba diving. Plan your dive; avoid long surface swims. If necessary do the swims on your back. A good BC(Halcyon) makes the swim easy. Don't put a snorkel on your mask strap when scuba diving. It causes drag and can snag kelp. It also gets in the way all of the time. If you must have a snorkel get the folding kind and put it in your pocket where it will stay for a long time.

By the way, the best snorkels are made by Omer or Cressisub. I use them for free diving. Very basic snorkels-no flex hose or dry system.
